The number 1 digital TV station in Nigeria, MultiChoice Nigeria celebrated their 20th year anniversary in Nigeria on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Eko Hotel, Convention Center, Victoria Island, Lagos. That was the same day Lola & Peter Okoye had their engagement ceremony. The event was tagged MultiChoice Nigeria @ 20 & the Chairman's ball. The chairman here representing the multimillionaire Chairman of the company in the person of Mr. Dewunmi Ogunsanya.

The event has was announced was a black-tie event, but considering that it is an African thing the dress-code was extended from just the black-tie to include formal African attire. It was billed as a night of extraordinary fun and excitement, that would be full of color, drama & fashion. To say the truth, it didn't disappoint on all counts. Though like we Africans are already very well known for, the event didn't start on time as scheduled. But that didn't take  the shine away from the excitement & fun of the night. That little delay, was the opportunity for many to mingle and back slap and pose on the red carpet to take pictures.

The guest list had many of the who-is-who in attendance, too numerous to even count or mention, most of them dressed up to the nines. As usual at such occasions like this, Mo Abudu, the boss at Ebony Life was the epitome of grace & gorgeousness. So also were many others that we caught a glimpse of. Funke Akindele looked delicious in her form fitted outfit.

The event's master of ceremony was the incredibly talented IK Osakioduwa, whose delivery and sharpness of wit is second to none and to finish it off; He was as dapper as they come. He engaged his audience from the minute he stepped out on stage, till the end, he even mimicked Michael Jackson. Like we already made mention, it was a night of drama. The dance drama troop (Crown Troop of Nigeria) made a very good showing of chronicling the history of the beginning of MultiChoice in Nigeria and Nigeria herself, from the heady days of the military till where we are now. The dancers depicted in the dance dram all the difficulties encounted along the way, the progresses made, showcasing all the noteworthy moments and achievements in dance drama. It was a very beautiful spectacle to behold.

It wasn't just dance drama all through, the drama was interspersed with music performances by some of our best home grown superstars the likes of Omawumi, who after singing a few of her songs introduced the elated chairman (Dewunmi Ogunsanya), who then made his opening remarks welcoming everyone and giving a very short history of the company. Thereafter Daddy Showkey came on stage to remind many, some of the glory days of our music history when he was the hot hot item in the limelight, singing such classics like Welcome, Somebody call my name & Dyna, after him was then the turn of the gloriously sonorous Seyi Shay who performed her hit single 'Irawo' with so much gusto that was very well appreciated by the audience,we loved her thigh bearing well cut outfit. She later introduced one of Nigeria's best voice ever in the person of  the now 'more exquisitely shaped' WAJE.

After another brief dance drama showcase, it was the turn of Africa's no 1 voice and one of the most gifted musicians from Africa, in the person of Tuface Idibia, the first time he came out he performed one of his best his classic, serenading the female audience with 'African Queen'. When he later came back out again it was to bring out the new decoder that was been introduced on the stage, singing Ife nna me' and then introducing the MD of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, who spoke a bit on the journey so far and then introduced the new baby of DSTV. The incredibly fantastic new decoder, DSTV Explora. Mr John Ugbe was accompanied on the stage by the likes Kate Henshaw, Funke Akindele, Jide Kosoko, Zack Orji, Chinedu Ikedieze & Ugo Okoye.

Not only is the new decoder a beauty to behold, it also packs a massive punch in form of functionality(ies). It's a PVR ,it can do up to 220 hours of recording, can Pause Live TV for up to 2 hours, it is HD capable, has Box Office, has a Catch Up functionality and so much more.

The highlight of the night apart from the too much to drink and eat and the dance drama, music etc, was that everyone with the gold invitation cards and the remote controls that came with it, were to pick up, the N60, 000 plus rated decoder for free courtesy the Chairman of MultiChoice, Mr. Adewunwi Ogunsanya. The idea before was that everyone would get a percentage discount on the purchase of the decoder for up to 50%, only for the Chairman to overrule that. It was a very kind gesture by the Chairman and for that we say; take a bow. .
